Seminary Students Attend Conference
Students from BMA Seminary were able to participate in the annual Seminarians
Interacting Program sponsored by the National Conference for Community and
Justice in cooperation with the Council of Southwestern Theological Schools and
the H.E. Butt Foundation January 2-5, 2006.
"Leading the People" was the program theme and allowed seminarians to interact
with students and faculty from diverse theological backgrounds with the hope of
enhancing their interfaith knowledge on the issue.
Dr. Philip Attebery, BMA Seminary Dean and program participant, said, "Malcolm
Bernstine, David Erickson and Tim Gresham did an outstanding job of representing
our institution and faith tradition during the program. We were able to view
representative worship services from Roman Catholic, Conservative Jewish,
Mainline Protestant and Free Church traditions along with participation in
dialogue with representatives from the varied theological perspectives. The
program provided an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about the
beliefs and practices of others."
David Erickson said, "The most challenging and rewarding part of the conference
was explaining my own beliefs to others. Because of my training at BMA Seminary
I was able to share Baptist beliefs and practices in a way that people of other
beliefs could understand. I came away from the conference with a greater
understanding of other faiths and I hope the other participants came away with
an appreciation for Baptists and their unique contribution to the world."
