Paschal Lectures Announced

 

 

BMA Seminary is pleased to announce the thirty-sixth annual Paschal Lectures will be delivered by Dr. Philip Bryan on Tuesday, October 4th and Thursday, October 6th. The theme of the lecture series will be Baptist Alternatives to Contemporary Ecclesiology.

 

Dr. Bryan is a recognized expert on Baptist ecclesiology and has studied the issues involved for many years. He currently serves as a Professor of Biblical and Theological-Historical Studies at BMA Seminary and has previously served the seminary in the capacities of Dean and President. He has been on the faculty of the seminary for nearly forty years. He has also served on the faculty of Jacksonville College, Southeastern Baptist College, and the California Graduate School of Theology.

 

Dr. Bryan has also taught abroad in such countries as Bolivia, Belarus, Burma, Costa Rica, England, Germany, Kazakhstan, Mexico, and Russia. A prolific writer, Dr. Bryan has posted many of his compositions on his website.

 

Dr. Bryan’s educational background includes an A.A. Degree from Jacksonville College, a B.A. Degree from The University of Oklahoma, a B.D. Degree from Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary, and M.A. and Ph.D. Degrees from Baylor University. He also did graduate studies at Syracuse University in New York and at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Bryan is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, and served on the Jacksonville Literacy Council for seven years, two years as Chairman of the Board. From 1996 to 1998 he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of Southwestern Theological Schools (COSTS). He is currently serving on the planning committee for the 2007 celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Philadelphia Baptist Association.

Dr. Bryan will present four lectures during the series at 9:30 am and 3:00 pm daily. The Tuesday lectures are entitled Conventional Evangelical Ecclesiology and The Body of Christ. The Thursday lectures will be Baptism and the Body of Christ and Communion and the Body of Christ.

In conjunction with the lectures, a master’s in motion class (TH 621. Selected Topics in Theology: Ecclesiology) will be offered. For more information regarding the class or to enroll for it, contact the BMA Seminary Dean’s Office at 903-586-2501.
